Building Muscles Without Gym Weights – 3 Exercises You Can Do

The whole idea of using weights is to provide some form of resistance. You simply have to recreate the resistance in another form, or intensify your aerobic workouts. In fact, many fitness coaches and doctors would recommend not using weights in training because they the risk of injury from weights is greater.
So, how do you recreate the resistance? The simplest way is simply to use your own body weight! Here are three specific body weight exercises you can use.
1. Push Ups
Push ups are most probably the most common, yet versatile of static body weight exercises. You can not only adjust the amount of resistance by using knee or feet as the pivot point, but also work on different muscle groups, by widening or narrowing with width between your hands. If you feel you are ready for the challenge, you can even go for one handed push ups!
2. Pull Ups
Another great way to work out your arms and back are pull ups. Doorway pull up bars are easily available at almost any fitness store. Like push ups, you can vary the technique you use, or your range of motion, and different muscle groups will be activated. To lower the intensity for starters, you can get a friend to assist in lifting you.
3. Squats and Lunges
Squats and Lunges are useful to get your leg muscles toned up. Its easy to do, too. Simply put your hands behind your back while you bend your knees and keep your heels on the floor. Lunges, on the other hand, can be done by stepping one foot in front of you and lowering yourself until your front thigh is almost parallel to the floor. Simply do more repetitions on each leg for added intensity.
Simple exercises like the three listed above are good enough to keep you fit and healthy, and with enough repetitions and the correct intensity, you can build muscle without weights. While these exercises may not get you to look like professional bodybuilders, it will really save you a whole lot of travel time, and money on gym memberships!
